I qualified from Porto University in 1978, and trained in anesthesia at Hospital S. João, Porto from 1983-1987. Since 1994, I am Consultant in anesthesia and had the degree of Senior Consultant in 2003, after public examination. From 2003-2007 I undertook the Master Degree in Anesthesiology and Pain Therapy, at Coimbra University. In 2003 was given the Competence in Medical Emergency, by the Portuguese Medical Council. From 2006 to 2014, I was the Director of the Department of Anesthesiology of Hospital S. João.
Since 1994, I have developed a special interest in anesthesia for children, and am responsible for Paediatric Anaesthesia teaching in the residency program of our hospital.
I am the Anaesthetic Coordinator of the renal transplantation group of this institution, since 1992.
President of the Section of Paediatric Anesthesia of The Portuguese Society of Anesthesiology since 2011.
I am the National Representative in the Advisory Council of Representatives of National Societies (ACORNS) of the European Society of Paediatric Anaesthesia.
